2016 BIKE BUILD OFF SYDNEY

As the sun set on the fourth iteration of the Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Build Off presented by BMW Motorrad in Sydney, and we sat down to re-live the day through the terabytes of captured photo and video it quickly became apparent that the event has only gotten better and better throughout the years. The sheer ingenuity, sense of humour, artistry and creativity of the 47 back yard builders that came out to put their specially built creations on display, was an absolute delight for all to see.

The day began at the Bondi Pavilion with Master of Ceremonies/BMW ambassador Kate Peck and founder of Deus Ex Machina Dare Jennings getting the day started by introducing the panel of esteemed judges, the history and background of the event and the involvement of our Partners in Grime. These being BMW, who also had some of their own loudest and finest on display, the amazing unbreakable range of denim from Saint CC, some of the most interesting creations currently coming out of the MotoRetroworkshops and tyres from Metzler Moto.

The judges got started and began the mammoth task of getting down to the nitty gritty with each and every contestant, looking for those who had created "the most with the least," and conducting the ritual kick over to ensure each beast could fire its cylinders. Although we will shortly be announcing those the judges preferenced on the day, winners and losers were really beside the point. The entrants seemed only to be vying to see who could have the most fun, with this award surely going to Oliver the owner of the hand built mono wheel. He put his invention to the test for the crowd by cutting laps around the entrance of the Pavilion to the cheers of those who'd doubted its functionality.

The crowd came out to enjoy the Bondi sun in droves, loving the unrestricted access to the bikes and ease of speaking to each builder – always on hand to share a joke and a story as well as pointing out the incredible detail and thought each had put into his labour of love. Slow Bones had their slow cooked jerk chicken and pulled pork smoked on site for the hungry hoards, and Curry Puffs,Crown Street Grocer, Miss Lilly's and Deus Kitchen also put up some excellent grub.

From all at Deus we would like to thank the amazing people who build and participate in this community, you made this event an absolute success and we obviously couldn' have done it without you.
